wow so it only took me barely a day to read this entire book。 i was ENTHRALLED into it。 the iron flower left me dazed and confused and this book just gave me straight whiplash。 first off， WHAT？？？ you are telling me that the thing with yvan was so UNDRAMATIC and it just seemed like it was a "meh" moment？？？？？？？？ i was beyond frustrated and upset that i had to put the book down for an hour or two。 so much happened but yet so little at the same time。 the main issue i had with the whole book is fucki wow so it only took me barely a day to read this entire book。 i was ENTHRALLED into it。 the iron flower left me dazed and confused and this book just gave me straight whiplash。 first off， WHAT？？？ you are telling me that the thing with yvan was so UNDRAMATIC and it just seemed like it was a "meh" moment？？？？？？？？ i was beyond frustrated and upset that i had to put the book down for an hour or two。 so much happened but yet so little at the same time。 the main issue i had with the whole book is fucking elloren。 like theres no way that this is book three and you STILL can not figure out your power and seem to lose all sense of control every other paragraph of the book like girl。。。just sometimes， when reading her point of view it's just so suffocating。 i felt myself like internally yelling at her to DO SOMETHING but she just constantly would be crying and not know what to do AND JUST ENDANGER EVERYONE。 like some powerful people are trying to protect her but sometimes she just keeps screwing up that it gets hard to keep giving her chances and understanding why she does what she does。i really hope in book 4 that she can finally start being the heroine that she is supposed to be？？？ the "strongest being EVER in all of erthia"。 also， i really hate love triangles。 like i REALLY hate them。 i do not see why they are so fascinating and they are ALWAYS with the two hottest men in the realm and the girl who can not seem to do anything on her own and is always relying on them and putting the men in danger to save her。 BUT if i had to choose a man after this book， i hate to say it but i have fallen COMPLETELY in love with LUKAS GREY like OMG the butterflies this man can give。 idc， he is the one that needs to end up with elloren and lets just say i almost threw the book once i read the final few chapters regarding him and yvan。 i need a lukas grey in my life。 certified favorite character in the series aside trystan， diana， and valasca。 my prediction about valasca and lukas were correct from book 2 and that makes me so happy。 but overall， i NEED a lukas grey in my life and he need to be in elloren's life as her "。。。fastmate， lover and friend"。 and i need to read the demon tide now to help subdue my fears and to calm myself。 。。。more

I love this series。 There is so much that Laurie touches on that although this is a fantasy book， the prejudices， sexism， violence just reminds me of our world today。 What I love is how she developed Elloren， from an innocent （with prejudices ideas） to fierce woman who finds out on her own on the true nature of others and stands up for what is right regardless of all that she will lose。I also like that we are given time with both of Elloren's love interest equally。 We have been given the opportu I love this series。 There is so much that Laurie touches on that although this is a fantasy book， the prejudices， sexism， violence just reminds me of our world today。 What I love is how she developed Elloren， from an innocent （with prejudices ideas） to fierce woman who finds out on her own on the true nature of others and stands up for what is right regardless of all that she will lose。I also like that we are given time with both of Elloren's love interest equally。 We have been given the opportunity to lean who Yvan is and see a loving relation develop between them。 And then we are given the opportunity to see Lukas in a different light and learn about him。 I think that they way both were given an opportunity for readers to see both men was well written。 And in the end I am TeamLukas all the way。 I am excited for book 4 and will be certainly sad when this series does come to an end but I know that how much I enjoy this series will be listening again and again over time。 。。。more

Totally agree with the other more critical reviews for this book。 Compared to the previous two installments there were a lot of shortcomings in this one。 The pacing was horribly slow， there was a profound lack of plot action and general inconsistency in the story， the heroine vehemently refuses to outgrow her juvenile tendencies， many beloved side characters were completely missing， and the romantic focus felt confusingly unsatisfactory。 In principle， I can enjoy a well constructed love triangle Totally agree with the other more critical reviews for this book。 Compared to the previous two installments there were a lot of shortcomings in this one。 The pacing was horribly slow， there was a profound lack of plot action and general inconsistency in the story， the heroine vehemently refuses to outgrow her juvenile tendencies， many beloved side characters were completely missing， and the romantic focus felt confusingly unsatisfactory。 In principle， I can enjoy a well constructed love triangle but in this case I feel like either outcome will end up being disappointing for everyone。 Mostly because the characters seem to be too immature for any wholesome ending。 And although I preferred the pairing in this installment， I fear that any （emotional） investment will be completely wasted in the end since I expect one pairing to be randomly cast away。 The heroines affections being too unreliable and erratic。Another very annoying and uncalled for element in this book was the seemingly random use of various POVs at odd times throughout the story。 I don't think that this benefited the storytelling at all。 A much more consistent and more carefully planned use of a few other POVs would have been more enjoyable。However， I am still interested in how the story will progress and hopefully our main characters will be more developed in the next installment。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 Laurie Forest is my favorite author。 I love the Black Witch series more than any other series I have ever read。 She’s built a very dark world with characters that are so well developed， I can’t help but feel a deep connection with them。 I was so excited for this book that I took a few days off work to read it when it first came out。 I’ll be honest… this book crushed me。 Why？ Because I was upset that Yvan， this mysterious character I’ve grown to love and want to know more about， is killed off wit Laurie Forest is my favorite author。 I love the Black Witch series more than any other series I have ever read。 She’s built a very dark world with characters that are so well developed， I can’t help but feel a deep connection with them。 I was so excited for this book that I took a few days off work to read it when it first came out。 I’ll be honest… this book crushed me。 Why？ Because I was upset that Yvan， this mysterious character I’ve grown to love and want to know more about， is killed off within a matter of pages。 I couldn’t get past what happened and how it spiraled so quickly into Elloren falling in love with Lukas。 As much as I love Lukas’s character， I didn’t like what was happening between them。 As any worried reader would， I skimmed the pages at the end to see Yvan actually didn’t die。 It then made it really difficult to finish reading the story knowing Yvan is still alive and seeing Elloren give herself completely to Lukas was just too much for me and I felt like this series went off the rails of how I wanted it to be。 I felt torn over writing a review for this book because of all these emotions I felt。 How could I love the previous 4 books Laurie has written and not this one？ Here I am， over a year later re-reading all the books in preparation for The Demon Tide coming out next week。 I almost didn’t want to even read this book because of the emotions I felt last time I read it。 But this time I went into it with a totally different perspective。 I let myself read Laurie’s story the way she wants it without letting my emotions of how I want the story to go get in the way。 With more sympathy for Elloren as she’s thrown into chaos and survival mode。 I found I actually thoroughly enjoyed this book when I let myself be open minded and have full faith that all will be okay in the story Laurie is writing。 I actually enjoyed Elloren and Lukas’s relationship and how it grew and how Elloren is becoming the hero she is destined to be。 It is clear that Elloren and Yvan have something unique， but so do Elloren and Lukas。 Lukas’s character has been just as surprising and Yvan’s。 At this point， I don’t care which Laurie chooses because I just want to hear the story as she means for it to be。 I have full faith that it will be beautiful and make me feel all the feels ❤️。 As they say in the book， this is bigger than them。 All I can do is hope that all these characters I’ve grown to love have a happy ending。 Bravo on another brilliant story that I was too narrow minded to enjoy the first time around。 👏👏👏。 You know an author is truly something special when she can cause a full spectrum of emotions on you as you read。 I can’t wait to hear how the story progresses in the Demon Tide and I hope we get to hear from some characters like Diana， Jarod， Rafe， Marina， Gareth and Andras。 I’ve been curious about what is going on with them too！ 。。。more

This series is really magical; I know， what else might you expect from a high fantasy series？ New characters are introduced and tied in， which I think the story needed more than I realized。 I love so many things about this book but I also could have lived without some pieces of it。 Maybe I’m biased about what I want to happen。 But， I also think some topics are covered in a less than ideal way？？ I’m unsure but I know I’m invested in this story and curious to see the overall outcome。

who is in the desert training Elloren and waiting for the portal to charge gets attacked by Marcus Vogel。 Lukas pushes Elloren and Valasca into the portal while he is hit by the shadow wand power。 Ellore is in Noi。 She doesn't know if Lukas died or just been captured。 Valasca was sent elsewhere because the portal didn't have enough energy to control where the second person went。 Wh First of all， I will get the worst part out of the way。 At the end of the book， Lukas， Elloren， Valasca and Chi Nam who is in the desert training Elloren and waiting for the portal to charge gets attacked by with her for the way she acted at the wand fasting。 She has been gone for a month by this point。 She is sent to his parents house where his mother is mean。 She is told to go to a gathering that same night and given a very scandals dress to wear。 She gets where and gets attacked by Fallon Bane。 If Elloren dies， she has the chance to wand fast to Lukas。 After punching Fallon in the face and running away from her magical blows， she finds a dead end with no one around for hiding。 Damien Bane finds her and tells her that the day she was wand fasted， he was the one to wand fast to her before Lukas came in and rescued her from wand fasting to Damien by wand fasting to him。 Now she understands that Lukas was really trying to help her。 Damien wand fasted to Ainsley （Jared's crush） and is assaulted and beaten ever day。 Elloren could of have that fate。 He tries to rape Elloren when Lukas comes in and rescues her again and beats Damien to the pulp。 Unconscious， he is sent to the hospital。Elloren and Lukas talk and tries to understand each other without telling the each other the truth。 Elloren is trying to figure out which side Lukas is on。 At the gathering， Marcus Vogel felt her powerful magic and is now curious。 Then he announces to everyone that the Ikarol of the prophecy was Yvone and that hey killed him。 Elloren runs out and is distraught。 Lukas knows the relationship that she had with Yvone and tells her he needs to get her out before Vogel finds out。 He still doesn't know that she is the Black Witch。 Just that her power has grown a lot。 Vogel demotes Lukas temporarily for what he did to Damien。 He tells him that he needs to seal to Elloren the next day。 So they prepare to escape during the spreading of ash ceremony where they both go into the woods to spread ash from the tree they burn during the sealing。 Elloren is attacked by the assassins but is saved by Phin， a n assistant soldier of Mage Council to Lukas， but rut both Lukas and Phin are running against Marcus Vogel。 At this point you find out that Lukas is on Elloren's side and has been for a while。 And he knows she is the Black Witch。A dragon saves her， makes an ally with him。 He's a small dragon snuggled out of the Fay Island by Furnn and her brother。 Marcus Vogel is over the sealing and seals Lukas and Elloren together and tells Lukas that he is to bring Elloren to him the next day to be wand tested。 They consummate their sealing。 Of course its hot。 Elloren starts to trust Lukas and cares for him at this point while grieving for Yvon。 They run away。 Meet up with Phinn， Sage and her brother， the dragon， Aislynn and urich maid。 Then Lukas and Elloren goes their way。 Vascal and Chi Nam comes to find them to escort them to the Noi region to try to convince them not to kill Elloren。 Vascal is going against Amaz and Chi nam is going against the Noi， a master of Vu Trin。 They are both the top fighter and commander of their army。Now， during this， Tierney doesn't get along with the 1st。 The fifth one will be the last one， The third book was a filler。 I feel like Lukas has more humor than Yvon and definitely knows how to flirt。 He's a charmer。 I can't decide who I want Elloren to end up with。 This book showed me how strong and knowledgeable Lukas is with his power/magic。 Not only his magic but with Noi magic as well。 Yvone seems kind of emo。 I hope whoever that doesn't get Elloren doesn't get killed and they have some long lost lover that comes out of nowhere。 。。。more
